Interview with Todd Wilson

Give us a little insight about your career history

I started with Vermillion Group in 2003 as a solo Account Executive. I have enjoyed many successes, including being awarded Midwest Regional Rookie of the year in 2004, multiple "Pacesetter" awards, and multiple "Top Ten" awards for solo production.

What are some attributes that set you apart from other recruiters?

Several things:

First, I have been working in the managed care arena for nearly 9 years. I know the industry and have established connections throughout the country.

Second, I refuse to sacrifice long term success for short term satisfaction. This means I would rather kill a deal than manipulate a client and candidate to make a placement. My success and reputation are built on complete honesty and intergrity in all our dealings with clients and candidates.

Third, I am a "true recruiter" who specializes in finding the very best talent available. These individuals are typically currently employed and successful in their position. Many times my clients ask me why one of my candidates is looking to make a change. The hiring manager is surprised to learn the individual wasn't looking - until I called them. After our call, the candidate is open to exploring the potential fit with the client company. Now it is up to us to demonstrate to the candidate why our opportunity is better than their current role. This is the defintion of "recruiting"!

What do you enjoy most about being a recruiter?

I enjoy putting the deal together. Some companies believe search firms are nothing more than resume factories. They call us, we search our data base, fire off a resume, and two weeks later a hire is made. I wish it were that easy!

Changing jobs is an emotional, life changing decision for a candidate. Hiring a new employee is a major investment and risk for a company. Bringing these two sides together requires a recruiter who can play multiple roles throughout the process: detective, salesman, counselor, coach, cheerleader, advocate, confidant, and friend. I love the diversity of this job!
